Devonshire Estate – Wharfe View Holiday Cottage

Wharfe View, located in the heart of the Wharfe Valley, is one of two exclusive stone built holiday cottage properties on the Bolton Abbey Estate operated by the Devonshire Arms Hotel & Spa.

Devonshire Arms Cottages

Previously a tenanted farm the original building was typical of a Yorkshire Dales working farmhouse, with modest rooms and draughty spaces both upstairs and down.

Working with the Bolton Abbey team who had the support of the Duke and Duchess, we reconfigured the internal space, turning the back of house areas into a ground floor guest bathroom and bedroom and with double brass tester bed and headboard drapes. This ground floor room is dog friendly, something hinted at in the choice of fabric.

A further bedroom, complete with ensuite, has two Victorian style painted metal-framed beds, whilst the Master Bedroom boasts a traditional 4 poster.

A lean-to area at one side of the cottage was transformed into a useful boot room with laundry facilities – perfect for people who love the great outdoors whatever the weather throws at them.

A well equipped kitchen features bespoke hand made and painted cabinets, which make the most of the space in this area.
As with Stank House, another of the Devonshire cottages, the aim was for people holidaying in the cottage to feel like a guest of the Duke and Duchess. The provision of a selection of items such as playing cards, games, books and a dog bed complete with dog-toys adds the finishing personal touch.
