The Farrier, Cayton

“A New Heart for an Old Soul”

Formerly a public house called The Blacksmiths Arms, The Farrier in Cayton opened in December 2018 to rapturous enthusiasm. Since that time, it has quickly earned a reputation for offering great food and drink in comfortable and stylish surroundings.

The Farrier

The Busby family, the new owners of The Farrier, recognized the importance of the former pub in the village, and wanted to create a local community enterprise catering for locals and visitors alike and help put the heart back into the village.

The Farrier offers something for everyone. Within its walls there is a typical Pub with Rooms, plus a Gin Bar/Coffee Lounge, Restaurant and Ice-cream parlour.

The design intent was to create a homogeneous feel to the interior but with clearly defined areas within, each with a different offering catering to all ages, from breakfast, brunch, coffee, lunch, cocktails, dinner, ice-cream and everything else in-between.

Playing on the name The Farrier and the clients’ love of horses, the equine theme, combined with classic country comfort is evident throughout. Bespoke door handles were fashioned from snaffles, whilst banquette seating features straps from horse harnesses.

We used the arch of the building to help delineate spaces. The Bar is designed to offer tea/coffee/cakes all day; the snug has low ceilings and complimented by a new fireplace. The bright ice-cream parlour can be used as a stand-alone business with its own entry but is also accessible from the bar.

Outside is a courtyard that can also be used for outdoor dining and provides seating for those just visiting the ice-cream parlour who prefer to enjoy ices alfresco.

Upstairs the area doubles as a Gin Bar / multi-function space for large parties. We brought the dramatic beams into the design equation and added plush seating and crystal lights.

The boutique bedrooms, not surprisingly, are named after 4 famous race-horses and are equestrian inspired with little touches like a copy of Black Beauty in the Black Beauty room!

The clients were very creative and had a huge influence on helping to achieve what is a result of fantastic teamwork.
