Affiliated to the famous Plough at Scalby, a 2-bedroom cottage that serves as both accommodation for The Plough, or as a stand-alone holiday cottage.

The property, known as Sunrise Cottage, had formerly belonged to a property developer, and the interior was typically bland. Our brief was to create atmosphere through a cohesive interior design.

In the kitchen new appliances, tiled backsplash, window treatments and flooring added layers and textures.

Bedrooms were given wooden floors, upholstered headboards, and a combination of wallpaper, dado and “brickwork” restored the cottage feel. Realistic feature panelling was created by cost effective use of wallpaper!

The bathroom has pebble effect vinyl, a dark painted ceiling to reduce its perceived height, direct lighting and illuminated mirror.

Main walls in the main living spaces were painted the same colour for continuity and mixed with bold wallpaper and bespoke joinery in recesses. Brick slips at the back of the fire add authenticity and put back history, removing the last of the new development feel.

The dining area shares the same seating style as The Plough and bespoke display cabinets and prints of Scarborough’s bathing huts make it feel like home from home.

The whole aims for country comfort, is both dog friendly and practical. Furniture is a mix of new and repurposed from the client’s stores.
