The interior of the Cavendish lounge was rather dark and as a result appeared bland and uninviting. Swags and upholstery looked tired and a bank of antique mirrors managed to absorb light rather than reflect it!

Our brief was to refurbish the lounge, in a style recognisable to the regular clientele but inject personality whilst retaining Chatsworth brand values.

The design intent was to retain the traditional interior yet bring out elements that are quintessentially “Chatsworth”.

A bespoke Chatsworth crested carpet replaced the existing, immediately freshening up the look and feel of the whole area.

Walls were papered with a Parterre style print reflecting the Baroque influenced garden design, emulating from Versailles in the 17th century, of which Chatsworth is a good example.

Beading was added to flat walls and the existing dado was retained. The fireplace was painted and given a marble effect by a craftsman using centuries old techniques.

Lights in the bar area were replaced to provide greater illumination and wall lights were reconfigured to make the most of the area.
New furniture now provides guests with choice of classic wing chairs and contemporary tub chairs.

Heavy swags were replaced by lighter linen drapes with a muted floral design, complementing the newly papered walls.
