The Lawrance is an Apart-Hotel in central Harrogate housing 9 apartment rooms over 2 floors plus reception. Each apartment has its own kitchen and ensuite. The client’s objective was to position The Lawrance as a destination venue within Harrogate for mixed groups of business & leisure guests.

The project had to deliver significant impact with a conservative spend and be appreciative of the broad client demographic, with ages ranging between 18 and 80.

OUR BRIEF

To evaluate the existing spaces and reconsider the current aesthetic, to create a warmer, cosier “home from home” feel, clearly linked to the Lawrance brand. The aim was to establish an overall look and feel for the rooms that could be implemented across each apartment. Overall, the existing rooms were rather dark and had damage to the walls. Industrial lighting did nothing to promote a comfortable, welcoming feel.

DESIGN SOLUTION

Each room had its own layout while following a simple, minimalist style. Specifications used throughout the refurb were based on an optimum combination of design, durability and cost-effectiveness. Fixtures, fittings and materials were standardised where possible, using a compact portfolio of finishes, making implementation and maintenance as straightforward as possible.

Common/Living/Kitchen Areas

We added a practical dado to all walls and the stairway. The addition of T&G painted panelling wallpaper adds texture and a homely feel. Combined with dark painted woodwork achieved the dramatic effect required.

The interior palette uses earthy colours with splashes of bold colour on furniture. This aims for a bold statement, yet is not too serious. Random patterned floor tiles in the kitchens add to the colour story.

Bedrooms

The envelope of all bedrooms is the same. Rooms are minimalistic, yet deliver on comfort, style and durability.

Bathrooms

Contemporary bathrooms were given a face-lift and brightened up by changing both floor and wall finishes and adding underfloor heating. New showers feature a “marble” wet wall system with sliding doors to help them feel more spacious and be more practical to clean.

Overall the combination of wood and feature wallpapers together with finishing touches provided by throws and cushions add character, comfort and softness.
Lighting was an essential part of the design for The Lawrance. Each room has new ambience provided by a carefully chosen combination of industrial, studio and spotlight styles
