The design intent for Yew Tree Apartment above the Yew Tree Café in Scalby was very much to offer guests home comforts of The Plough, and essentially make it feel like an extension of its accommodation.

Yew Tree Apartment

The apartment space lends itself to open plan “New York” loft type living – a feature played on by the use of enlarged black and white prints. Guests are fascinated by these prints depicting North Street Scalby and the Yew Tree around the turn of the century.

Being above a commercial space (Yew Tree Café), the original floor plan had interesting, if awkward changes of level in the middle of the room. We rearranged the space so that the change of level now sits hidden within a wall. Being dog friendly, floors are hard wearing easy to clean, but still tactile enough to provide comfort and warmth.

On the ground floor a dedicated utility room is fitted out with bench seating, coat hooks and also supports a dog bed and dog wash facility.

Bedrooms are classic and simple with natural fabrics and tapestry creating comfort and colourful accents.
The bathroom features a Victorian style roll top bath in keeping with the heritage theme. Dark painted cabinets work in harmony with the warm Aztec effect floor tiles.

The open plan arrangement incorporates a kitchen with hand painted shaker style cupboards. whilst the quirky living/dining area is comfortable and stylish.
